I also have that very link bookmarked as I use UI5 a lot for the additional property sheet panel for controlling components. I've toyed a little with the SAPUI5 handler, but came up short in good ideas, aside from making a Toolbar component. My interest went to sap.m library since it's a little more modern and Fiori-like, however me and Mustafa Bensan have run into some quirks with the event handlers for those components.
Back to your question, perhaps implementing a usable Carousel or ThingInspector or FacetBrowser component would be cool?
